Proud Momma. Proud Kid

This dude here made Student of the Month. I can't describe how terribly proud of him I am. He surprises me day after day with just how much he understands of the world around him.

He told me last week that his teacher said he has a kind and soft heart. That just about brought me to tears. There's nothing sweeter than a kid with a soft heart. I sometimes wonder how God could have blessed me with such a great kid. I don't know but I'm trying my best to make sure he stays that way.

Cherishing....

Today marks what would have been my father's 67th birthday. He was a simple guy and wasn't into fanfare or gifts. A phone call and chatting with the boys via webcam would have been more than enough to make his birthday special.

This picture here was snapped more than 3 decades ago on Easter at my grandparent's house where our extended family gathered. So grateful for all the memories I have of family and of Daddy. So grateful that at the time of this picture we still had years ahead of us with Daddy. Sorta sad that my boys are just around the age my younger sister and I are in this picture. They don't have years ahead of them with my daddy. And that makes me plain sad.

This is just a little admonition to cherish those whom you love. Spend time making the best memories and loving as much as possible--because one day that's all you will have left to draw on is sweet memories.

Happy birthday Daddy. We all miss you so much.

Sticking Close

I love how my big boy is such a sharp little whipper snapper. So bright and curious about the world. Such a lover of learning.

And I adore how baby brother is always close at hand. Always making sure he's part of the mix.

He usually likes to do his own version of homework (scribbling on paper) while big brother is studying. But on this day, he chose to play quietly until his brother finished.

Busy With Boys

I've got a bunch of blog posts swimming in my head, but not enough hours in the day to capture them all. These two precious little boys God has entrusted to my care are keeping me busy and on my toes. This little one is an explorer at heart. In this week alone, I've pulled him off of the TV stand, removed a rock from his mouth and discovered pocket change in his diaper. His big brother is such a patient, kind soul--until he doesn't get his way. Sets me on edge some days.

When I'm not "mommying", I'm counting down the thousands of gifts I'm surrounded by and have been spending lots of time drinking deeply of God's Word.

I'm still here...just trying to juggle it all and find balance.

Take Life Slow

Took this photo as I rushed off campus from work yesterday to get the boys. Always on a schedule. Rush here. Rush there.

You blink and babies are big boys. Time flies. Deadlines. Grocery lists that need to be turned into dinner. Time slips away.

Even in the midst of this, we must slow down. Enjoy the last ray's of the day's sun to warm our skin. Listen to God whispering promises. Slow down and soak in this one life we've been given.

Skating Away From the Edge

Saturday we went ice skating at the request of my big boy. He has visions of himself spinning and twirling. I tried to convince him that he’d have to take it slow. But he wanted to hear none of that—until he got on the ice and realized he had to take it slow. By the third go-round, he was ready to get off the wall and skate without help, without holding my hand. And I was nervous. There were teenagers whipping by and it was just no place for a six-year-old out on the ice for the first time. Yet, I let go. And he fell. And he cried. And my heart ached as I looked at his red hand and face full of tears.

But he got up, wiped those tears off and was ready to do it again. I loved that moment. Bittersweet for this momma. Watching him get hurt. Watching him muster up the courage to get up and keep skating.

Faith is a lot like that. Cling to the edge and you don’t really get what you want. Launch out into the deep and that’s where the waves get treacherous. You may get pulled under for a second. Real faith is no cake walk. It’s risky. Scary. You may fall. But God’s hand is right there to pull you up. Wipe away tears. And watch you launch into the deep all over again. It makes His heart happy.

Go ahead. Get away from the edge. Let go. Dive into the depths of faith and twirl. Spin. There’s so much beauty there.

At this very moment.....

I want a caramel latte from Panera Bread. One more week and I'll be able to partake of the goodness that is caffeine.

There's a bunch of work on my desk. I'm shoulder-deep in work today.

Brooke Fraser's "Loving is Waiting" is my office soundtrack. And the album "Albertine" is still in constant rotation on my mp3 player. 

I can't get Kelli's worship song "Come Back" that she shared with me this morning out of my spirit. The masses need to experience her music.

I'm daydreaming about pretty paper over at Paper Source and making Valentine's day card for my six year old.

Little People

I remember playing with Little People when I was a kid. They look a lot different these days, but the joy they bring is just the same. Funny thing is, the little people in my house (these 2 boys) brings me joy as well. Can't imagine life without them.
