Why in the world do we spend money on all the toys this child has when he's occupied (and quiet) with an MP3 player? Thank goodness for being able to repeat songs!

One of my girlfriends got married this past weekend. I LOVE weddings.......and what I love even more is how it sweeps a breath of fresh air through my own marriage and fills my husband up with even more love! Happy Love Thursday. Love is all around here.
I was rummaging around my computer looking for a file and found this....a poem I wrote five years ago celebrating our upcoming wedding. Very fitting for this post!
Love Is Here
Just For Us
Here, my love,
Take my hand
And my heart.
Let us run wildly
Through these wide green pastures
whispering sonnets of devotion
Just For Us
Sit with me and drink deeply
From this sweet cup of love
placed before us
Come with me
Embrace this eager bright day
That God birthed
Just For Us
Look at how our love is taking flight
Like an eagle
Soaring confidently
Let us follow it
Listen to the breezes
Light with giggles and whispers
Of adoration
Look at the light and laughter
In the eyes and on the smiles of family and friends
Gathered here today.
If you listen closely
Their hearts are applauding
Just For Us
Can’t you hear the melodic echo
Of my heartbeat
It mirrors your own
And it is pulsing a steady rhythm
Of Love.
Written just days before our wedding ceremony

Today I got one of the best calls I ever received in my whole life. The doctors said my father is cancer free. They did an MRI last week and it's all clear. Hallelujah! Turns out he was at stage 3 and the cancer had been developing for a least five years. What a great big God we serve. Thanks to all my prayer warrior friends for interceding on his behalf. There is power in the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous. What my dad wants to do upon his release: go to a restaurant to eat something other than hospital food and hug his grandson. I have a feeling that Rhyan will be happy to get that hug.

Before my aunt passed, she had planned to make gumbo before Christmas and have family over. However, she was in the hospital at the time. After her passing, her children kept her plans going and had family over for gumbo. She would have loved it! Here's a very small portion of the family that gathered to remember her over good food and good conversation. I LOVE family. Love is all around here.

The Thomas the Train engine never stops in our household. That little steam engine exists in every corner of our home. There was one on my nightstand this morning, he's on TiVo, and the puzzle I keep putting away, keeps coming out of the box. I'm sure Rhyan can put that thing together with his eyes closed now.
And if I would have known that these Thomas the Train pajamas would bring this child so much joy I would have bought them much sooner!

So like I said here I was going to jump on the Menu Plan Monday train. And already I feel such a relief knowing what I'm going to cook for the whole week. I would pull something out of the freezer in the morning, but have no idea what was going to become of it. Thanks to Laura at I'm An Organizing Junkie for one bright idea! Here's what momma has lined up in the kitchen for this week.
Monday - Salmon croquettes, rice pilaf, corn on the cob
Tuesday - Slow Cooker Adobo Chicken, red potatoes, green beans
Wednesday - Leftovers
Thursday - Southwestern Chicken
Friday - Chicken Enchiladas
Saturday - Gone to a wedding
Sunday - Spinach lasagna, salad & rolls
For more yummy dinner ideas check out Laura's Menu Plan Monday's lineup at I'm An Organizing Junkie.

I LOVE me some Tyrone Wells. LOVE him do you hear me? I discovered him singing his heart out one early Saturday morning at a swap meet here in Southern California. I stopped dead in my tracks and just listened to the soulful melodies floating out of him so effortlessly--a sweet little tune called Sea Breeze. I bought his albums and have been a fan ever since. He truly creates music that matters. Fast forward nearly six years later and this dude has created quite a following. I'm happy to say I've been there to watch his rise!
I'm bringing up Tyrone--not just because I adore him and think you should too--but because he's written the song that has become My Song. In the January 2007 issue of Real Simple there is a great article on finding your life's theme song. I didn't think I had one until I turned on Tyrone's "Dream Like New York" for like the 20,000th time. A light bulb went off--that's my song--the one that gets me motivated and out of a rut. And the one that Rhyan doesn't protest about from the back seat. Check out Tyrone's myspace page to take a listen if you like. It just might become one of your favorites! The lyrics are below. By the way, what's your song?
Dream Like New York
So many dreams come and go
We blink our eyes
Time flies by we don’t know
What ever happened to those childhood years?
When we thought we could fly
We got to keep those dreams alive
And dream like New York
As high as the skyline
Aim for the stars above those city lights
I want to dream like New York
I’m running down Broadway
I got to catch the next train
I’m making my way
Race to work again today
From nine to five
I only strive to stay awake
But the child inside me
Dares to believe I still can fly
Can’t let those dreams just die
I got to dream like New York
As high as the skyline
Aim for the stars above those city lights
I want to dream like New York
I’m running down Broadway
I got to catch the next train
I’m making my way
How many times have u tried and failed?
Have you watched your dreams slip away?
Well every hero falls and every soldier crawls.
And every dreamer dreams again
Got to dream again
Go on and dream like New York
As high as the skylines
Aim for the stars above those city lights
Go on and dream like New York
Run on down Broadway
Catch the next train
Go make your way
Go on and dream like NY
As high as the skylines
Aim for the stars above those city lights
You got to dream like NY
Run on down Broadway
Catch the next train
Go make your way
Go make your way
Go make your way

I just got back in town to discover that it's National De-Lurking Week. For those of you (like my mom-a faithful reader by the way!!) who don't know what that means. It's when you read in on people's blogs without introducing yourself. I've been notorious for that. So today I commented my heart out and de-lurked at all my favorite spots. Felt Good!! I've often said that performers have the greatest jobs because they get applause at the end of the day. WOW! I'd love to get applause once the magazine I edit is dropped. Hooray. Or applause for bathing Rhyan. Not that I'm looking for it. But wouldn't that be just awesome? I once told my husband that he deserves applause when he comes in from a long day's work. Perhaps Rhyan and I should stand by the door tonight and clap our heads off! He'd LOVE that!!! Today I saw my de-lurking as an applause of sorts. Letting folks out there know I dig what they are doing. Any lurkers out there? I'd love to hear from you!

I unpacked this suitcase less than a week ago and it's already packed up again. I'm heading home--this time for the funeral of a dear aunt. My mother's sister....a woman who was like a mother to me. Her passing is still surreal and has got me thinking more and more about mortality. Actually when my father was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, the reality that death is ever before us rang all too true for me. I'm finding myself praying more for those around me and trying to learn to number my days. It's hard to remember that we are like grass--we flourish one day and then the wind blows and like the grass we are gone. Josh Harris is doing a great study on wisdom and learning to number our days over at his blog. Some sobering thoughts indeed.
